Mayor warns against scam using his name

The Gert Sibande District Municipality has learnt of a scam doing rounds in the public purporting to be from Cllr Muzi Chirwa the District Executive Mayor.

There are person(s) pretending to be Chirwa, sending emails to the mayor’s colleagues using an email created using his name and requesting urgent assistance with different amounts of money. The municipality, has advised the public and warned that the mayor distances himself from such conduct.

“Such correspondence is not from Cllr Muzi Chirwa nor his office. Scams often result in members of the public losing their hard-earned money and we urge the public to be vigilant to avoid the success of such scammers.” read the statement.
